Someone I challenged questioned the point of the "Ice Bucket Challenge" [VIDEO] slgckgc/flickr
I did the Ice Bucket Challenge over the weekend. I called out three people and one of them agreed with a person that wrote "This seems to focus
more on the person doing it than the disease". I've seen other comments with similar points of view. This is a discussion worth having.

I can see where some people might find it pointless to dump a bucket of ice water on your head for charity. Why wouldn't you just write a check and ask others to do the same? The answer: It raises awareness in a way that gets people's attention. According to the AP, the challenge going viral has led to a 1,000% increase in donations when compared to the same period the year before. (source: http://huff.to/1oU4dhk ) That kind of increase makes almost any activity worthwhile. Even something as silly as dousing yourself with ice water.
